Cal Mar Hotel Suites

Hidden gem! Some might call the rooms dated, but I'd say "vintage." It's was really cool to see a classic building that hadnt been completely updated, or torn down. I stayed here for 3 nights with my family of 4 and it was perfect! Parents got their own room and kids slept on the fold put couch. The kitchen allowed us to make breakfast in and save money. The staff were helpful and everything was clean and tidy. Highly recommend as an alternative to an AirBnB or corporate hotel.

I echo a previous review's words: Unquestionably one of Santa Monica's best-kept secrets. This place is right out of the 60s/70s. For me, that suits me. Noise can get a bit loud during the day, however that's anywhere in the area. I got work done and met with clients with no interruptions. The amenities might feel dated to some. I liked it -- they're dated because they last and everything just works. I felt right at home with full kitchenette, bathroom, living room with desk, dining area, and bedroom. Cool air during the day, heat when it got chilly at night? I couldn't ask for more. What stood out to me was the staff and clenliness. Everything feels and looks clean in the room I stayed in. Fresh sheets, clean. The air can be a bit "grandma's house at first." For me? That's a clean home. The staff went above -- they brought a medicine delivery up to the door and helped to explain the area in great detail, as well as find the prominade. In a word: hospitable.

Great Base in the Heart of Santa Monica Cal Mar Suites was exactly what we needed. A simple, no-fuss place in a fantastic location. The hotel itself is basic but had everything required for a comfortable stay. Being right in the heart of Santa Monica meant we could walk to the beach, shops and restaurants with ease. Best kept secret in Santa Monica. We have stayed in all the hotels in Santa Monica, Venice, Marina Del Ray including the higher end hotels and this is one of the best. Staff are accommodating and helpful and you can’t beat the location. Yes the rooms are dated but clean and spacious. If you’re looking for really good value and location this would be your hotel. A little bonus is they keep the pool warm, so you are able to swim anytime.

If Location & Reasonably priced accommodations are your priorities, than book a stay at Cal Mar Hotel Suites. This quaint boutique hotel is a throwback to 60's/70's eras. It has a very nice center courtyard that has the pool plus lounge chairs and tables/chairs where you can choose to eat al fresco. This courtyard has gorgeous plants and flowers; something is always in bloom. The Cal Mar is only 2 blocks, easy walk, to Pacific Palisades park, gorgeous walking park elevated above the PCH and very wide beach, that'll take you down the California Ave incline to the beach or turn left and walk to the famous Santa Monica Pier, where you can enjoy fishing, numerous restaurants, riding a ferris wheel, small roller-coaster or the historic carousel. Go inside the carousel building and before or after riding it; enjoy the historic pics & read about the its history. Enjoy a sweet treat at the Soda Jerk/Ice-cream area also inside the carousel building. Take a seat on the many benches in Pacific Palisades Park or on the Santa Monica Pier and enjoy people watching and the lovely breezes coming off the ocean. Cal Mar's location and price cannot be beat!!

The staff was extra accommodating and took initiative to be helpful. We did have issue with heat but they have portable heaters and immediately worked to fix it which we were fine with. Multiple times was offered to help with bags or strollers. Eloise was excellent at making our room comfortable and even initiated to bring extra baby blankets and towels since we had a newborn. Pool was warm. Great location. They should invest in some shampoo/ conditioner. But was overall very happy with all of the staff and our stay.

Just stayed here for the first time and absolutely loved it. The rooms were nice and big and the staff was very friendly. I highly recommend five stars.

It's was okay. I loved it wasn't far from beach,shops,food,store. Like that had fridge,stove, it did have dishes but did not use brought my own and cleaning stuff. Basically a whole apartment with 1-2 bed los of space. The only thing was heat smells like the room was on fire didn't use, blind where dirty, floor still had hair. Good thing it was only 1 night other that that they would've cleaned my whole room. But i use my lysol and wipes. My deposit came back fast usually hotel take forever.
